A tiny table has been carefully set with tea, flowers, and enough treats for company, but only one guest has arrived.
The idea for the mouse drinking tea from a raspberry came from my daughter, Amelia. It was such a sweet, imaginative detail that I immediately knew it belonged in the painting.
In A Lonely Tea Party, a small mouse sits dressed in his finest top hat and waistcoat, waiting at a table meant to be shared. There is something both charming and a little heartbreaking about him sitting there alone, surrounded by all the effort he put into making the moment special.
The flowers are fresh, the table is full, and everything is ready, but the empty seat still matters.
To me, this painting is about wanting connection, making space for it, and holding onto hope that someone will eventually take the seat across from you.
